How to ignite interest in your ideas, and make them spread like wildfire

The internet and social media have vastly expanded the global conversation. Today there are billions of people online communicating in countless spaces on virtually every topic you could possibly imagine. So, if you want to change the world, how can you make sure people hear your message through all the noise?

Greg Lukianoff — an author, attorney, and president of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression — suggests finding creative ways to connect your message with issues that might seem unrelated to your cause at first glance.

Lukianoff learned this lesson firsthand when he co-wrote the 2018 book “The Coddling of the American Mind” with social psychologist Jonathan Haidt. The book explored key insights about parenting and psychology while also showing how those topics relate to freedom of speech. For Lukianoff, illuminating the connections between these seemingly disparate topics helped him develop a better understanding of free speech.
