Black Tech Street is building an inclusive economy for Black entrepreneurs in Tulsa. 100 years after the Tulsa Race Massacre destroyed lives and businesses in the city’s Greenwood neighbourhood, Black Tech Street’s team is reinvesting in Black innovators to close the racial wealth gap.

Blue Monarch

Blue Monarch helps mothers break free from substance use disorder and start on the path to self-sufficiency by supporting both moms and their children. It is one of the few residential recovery programs that allows kids to live with their mothers while they recover. It provides resources such as family therapy, sober parenting counseling, and life skills training. Families stay together and grow together, with two generations learning at once how to heal and lead healthy, purposeful lives.

Its thriving urban farm and other businesses demonstrate the power of organic transformation that is possible when the emphasis is put on people over programs. Bonton Farms’ workers learn new skills and heal from past traumas, while the Bonton community has bloomed into a beacon for positive change.

Boston Uncornered

Uncornered — seeing the potential in all human beings — taps into the strengths of gang-affiliated youths and transforms them into community leaders and problem-solvers. In leveraging those with influence to be powerful agents of positive change, it begins a virtuous cycle to end urban violence and poverty. Uncornered provides youths with skills and support, as well as a stipend, to earn degrees, while helping them to become respected role models for others.

Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Kansas

The South Central Kansas chapter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America helps children build both character and confidence. Rather than prescribing a single curriculum, as many afterschool and summer programs do, the chapter encourages program participants to unlock their own inherent strengths and interests. Every day, the group connects young people in the Wichita area with mentors and provides them with a safe space to learn and explore.

Braver Angels is a citizens’ organization uniting Americans from different ends of the political spectrum to depolarize America by working with each other to understand the other side’s point of view, even if one disagrees. The organization engages with participants who disagree with one another, looking for common ground to work together, ultimately supporting principles that bring people together rather than divide them.

Breakthrough

Breakthrough Alliance of Colorado works with incarcerated individuals pre- and post-release to foster a productive return to society. Breakthrough walks alongside participants using an inside-out model of support, starting with an in-prison educational program that focuses on character development, career readiness, reentry planning, and the entrepreneurial mindset. Volunteers join Breakthrough in-facility and play a critical role in helping shift community perception when it comes to the justice-impacted population. Breakthrough also provides comprehensive lifetime reentry support and works with local community partners to help address critical stability factors upon release such as transportation access, mental health treatment, housing, clothing, food, and more.
