DC Central Kitchen offers real solutions to hunger, poor health, and poverty by nourishing those struggling in its community with both food and a pathway to self-reliance. DC Central Kitchen goes beyond just supplying meals — it employs the individuals in its community and works with them to overcome histories of incarceration, homelessness, addiction, and trauma to embark on culinary careers through its culinary training program and additional support services.

Defy Ventures empowers current and formerly incarcerated individuals to transform their lives by tapping into their entrepreneurial potential. Through comprehensive business training, leadership development, and personal coaching, participants gain the skills and mindset needed to thrive in professional environments. Defy Ventures helps individuals unlock new opportunities, whether by launching a business or securing employment, enabling them to achieve economic independence while giving back to their communities.

dfree® empowers those in the Black community to transform their mindsets, build wealth, and pave a path to self-sufficiency for generations to come. Its paradigm-shifting, faith-based program focuses on the emotional, cultural, behavioral, and psychological aspects of money management, helping thousands to shed debt, deficits, and delinquencies. Participants are celebrated for taking personal responsibility, serving as an inspiration to others in the community.

DreamKit mobilizes the power of community to restore the self-confidence of youth experiencing homelessness or unstable housing. DreamKit’s tech-based intervention teaches youth the hard and soft skills needed to reach stable employment, pays members for their progress, and catalogs their growth to be shared with employers who can set them up for success.

Drive Change is on a mission to equip NYC-based, formerly incarcerated young people ages 18 to 25 with tools to succeed in the food service industry and life after reentry. With a 4-month paid fellowship incorporating culinary arts training, leadership development, mental healing support, and placements into living wage jobs, Drive Change is reducing the likelihood of recidivism for its participants — and simultaneously challenging hospitality leaders to develop more equitable workplaces through the Hospitality for Social Justice program.

DV8 Kitchen provides meaningful employment to those in early-stage recovery from substance use disorder, helping them restore confidence, shed stigma, and be their best selves. It embraces highly capable workers — often overlooked or disregarded by other employers — as essential members of its high-end restaurant and catering team. By providing job training, a close-knit community, and accountability, DV8 guides those in recovery onto the path of long-term success.
