Stand Together Foundation, Stand Together Music, and The Phoenix Host 1 Million Strong Wellness Retreat Experience at Bourbon & Beyond 2022

Music and addiction recovery — promoting alternative recovery solutions

September 22, 2022

Louisville, KY (September 14, 2022) – Today, 1 Million Strong, an impact initiative that seeks to transform the way people think about addiction and recovery, announced a partnership with the 2022 Bourbon & Beyond festival that will include a sober-supportive wellness tent experience for festival-goers to cool off, relax, and enjoy alcohol-free cocktails in a comfortable environment.

1 Million Strong is an initiative created through a partnership between Stand Together Foundation, which is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in America by driving change from within communities, Stand Together Music, an organization that believes that the music industry is uniquely positioned to amplify and accelerate addiction recovery, and The Phoenix, which was founded on the mission to build a national sober active community that fuels resilience and harnesses the transformational power of connection so that together we rise, recover, and live.

"1 Million Strong's sober-supportive wellness tent will be at the Bourbon & Beyond 2022 festival to reinforce that sobriety doesn't cut off access to life, but can enhance it," said Scott Strode, Founder and National Executive Director of The Phoenix. "By creating an inclusive experience our goal is to build a sense of strength and community that is especially important at an event where people in recovery may feel excluded or triggered."

This experience is just one way that 1 Million Strong is partnering with festivals and venues across the country to help bring new opportunities to their back-of-house and front-of-house spaces, including mental health and wellness support and Phoenix-lead activations.

"We want all fans to feel welcome at Bourbon & Beyond," said Chamie McCurry, Chief Marketing Officer of Danny Wimmer Presents. "We are excited to partner with 1 Million Strong to offer a sober-supportive wellness tent onsite this year and encourage all festival attendees to check it out."

With more than 20 million people struggling with a substance use disorder, there is a need to change the approach to addiction which currently treats people as problems to be solved. Stand Together Music believes that the music industry can offer artists and fans opportunities to engage in alternative recovery solutions that go beyond giving money and signing petitions, while The Phoenix is an alternative recovery solution that celebrates empowerment and resilience with a long-term, community approach to recovery.
