We believe in people – that everyone has a role in solving America’s problems. What’s yours?
Our vision is for a society where every person can realize their potential.
It’s the kind of society promised by the Declaration of Independence. Where everyone has equal rights. Where people succeed by helping others improve their lives. Where all of us work together to unleash unimaginable progress — economic, technological, and social.
We Believe in People
Every person has a gift. And every person deserves the chance to find and express that gift. Solving our country’s problems depends on it.
We Believe Bottom-Up Works Best
The best way to solve problems is by empowering a diversity of people – including those who tend to be overlooked. Often, the best solutions come from those closest to the problems themselves.
We Unite With Anyone To Do Right
People who look for common ground find it. By partnering where we agree (even if it’s just on one of ten issues), we can accomplish so much more as a society.
In short, we believe in empowerment. But millions of people aren’t being empowered. Just the opposite. They’re often excluded and their capacity to contribute to solving problems is overlooked.
You wouldn’t run a nonprofit or a business by ignoring your team. You’d stifle their creativity and fail. The same is true for society.
Our society too frequently takes a top-down, one-size-fits-all approach, falling into the trap of looking for a single big answer to the most complex issues. The more we try, the more we find ourselves with a giant square peg in our hand, looking at a sea of round holes.
The result: The most serious challenges keep getting worse, from rising poverty to deepening partisan divides to education failing to equip students to succeed. More and more people are falling behind.
But it doesn’t have to be like this. There’s a better way.
Instead of looking for the one big answer, we look for many right-sized answers. That’s a bottom-up approach, and it works by harnessing everyone’s skills, knowledge, and experiences. The people have the solutions. When they have a real seat at the table, we can unlock incredible human innovation and remarkable results that help every person rise.
The most complex challenges don’t have a single big answer. They have many right-sized answers.
