Boston, Ma., April 13, 2021 – Today, The Phoenix, a nonprofit organization that fosters a supportive, sober active community for individuals recovering from substance use, announced its expansion into New Hampshire, bringing additional recovery support to one of the states hit hardest by the opioid crisis. The New Hampshire expansion is made possible by the support of local partners and Stand Together Foundation, which last year announced a $50 million commitment to help The Phoenix reach one million people in recovery by 2025.

The Phoenix offers in-person programs leveraging donated gym space, outdoor sites, and volunteers to provide critical support and connection to individuals in recovery from substance use. Programming is available in the Seacoast, Manchester, Concord, and Nashua areas, with further expansion planned throughout the state. All classes are free, and the only requirement to participate is 48 hours of continuous sobriety.

"The Phoenix takes a transformative approach to addiction recovery and we're thrilled to help them expand in New Hampshire," said Evan Feinberg, executive director of Stand Together Foundation. "The Phoenix offers a better path toward solving our addiction crisis -- helping each person to believe in themselves and demonstrating that in their recovery each person has something unique to offer to the next person. We're committed to helping The Phoenix reach as many people as possible across the country."

New Hampshire has the 6th highest opioid overdose rate in the country, according to a CDC report in April 2020. That makes it a crucial part of The Phoenix's strategy to provide long-term, community-driven support to individuals battling substance use. In addition to Stand Together Foundation's existing commitment, the expansion to New Hampshire is funded by local partners including the Ted and Doris Lee Family Foundation, The Brook, New Hampshire House of Representatives Majority Leader Jason Osborne, and Latitude Learning Resources Founder and Director Sharon Osborne.

"The Phoenix is an inclusive community that empowers our members to rise above substance use by leveraging the transformative powers of social connection and physical activity in their recovery," said Scott Strode, Founder and Executive Director of The Phoenix. "I spent the early years of my recovery in New England, so building a community in New Hampshire is close to my heart. The Phoenix is thankful for the support of Stand Together Foundation, the Ted and Doris Lee Family Foundation, The Brook, and Jason and Sharon Osborne to further the goal of helping our members heal and thrive in recovery."

Since 2006, The Phoenix's free sober active community has inspired thousands of people across America to believe they have the strength to rise from the ashes of addiction through the support of those who are walking that very same path.

The Phoenix is a member of Stand Together Foundation's Catalyst Network, a community of 190+ top-performing nonprofits across the country working to break the cycle of poverty through bottom-up solutions. Since becoming a Catalyst in 2016, The Phoenix has expanded its reach from four states to 20, with activities in more than 44 communities and more than 47,000 participants in its programs. As The Phoenix's newest location, New Hampshire presents the latest opportunity to reach individuals desperately in need of human connection and an opportunity to transform their lives.
