1 Million Strong Brings Sober-Supportive Wellness Retreat to Just Like Heaven and Cruel World Festivals
Empowering inclusive recovery solutions, the Wellness Retreats will be hosted in conjunction with The Phoenix, Stand Together Foundation, and Stand Together Music on May 13 and May 20
Pasadena, CA(May 11, 2023) – Today, 1 Million Strong, an impact initiative that seeks to support one million people in recovery through The Phoenix, announced a partnership with the Just Like Heaven and Cruel World festivals, bringing its free sober-supportive wellness retreat experience to both Goldenvoice events. Located onsite at each festival, the 1 Million Strong Wellness Retreat will provide fans with a sober-supportive space where they can relax, enjoy an alcohol-free mocktail, pop into the 360-photo booth to capture the moment, and meet up with fellow fans and attendees in recovery to enjoy the festival together.
“Like Goldenvoice, Stand Together Music is committed to promoting health and wellness across the music community,” said Colette Weintraub, Head of Stand Together Music. “Partnering with Just Like Heaven and Cruel World to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all festival attendees is an opportunity to ensure that we’re not leaving any fans outside the gates, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact that it has in the Southern California community and for festival goers everywhere.”
The 1 Million Strong wellness experience will be free and accessible to festival goers at Just Like Heaven on Saturday, May 13 and Cruel World on Saturday, May 20 at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, starting at noon on both days. The tent is located directly across from the Clubhouse area, between the north and south stage areas.
“1 Million Strong’s sober-supportive wellness tent at Just Like Heaven and Cruel World helps reinforce that sobriety doesn’t cut off access to life, but can enhance it,” said Scott Strode, Founder and National Executive Director of The Phoenix. “By creating an inclusive experience our goal is to build a sense of strength and community that is especially important in a festival environment where people in recovery may feel excluded or triggered.”
Over 46.3 million people currently struggle with a substance use disorder, making the need to change the current approach to addiction an urgent one. The Phoenix is changing the experience of addiction and recovery by using the power of community, empowerment and belonging as a long-term approach to recovery. 83% of their members report remaining sober after three months and report increased meaning in their lives.
Over the past year, 1 Million Strong has worked to create empowered spaces that celebrate people’s strengths and ensure that no fan is left outside the gate of their favorite festival or concert. They have done this by partnering with various events across the country, including Stagecoach, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Bourbon & Beyond, Louder Than Life, Park City Song Summit, and concerts by artists including The Chainsmokers, bringing new opportunities including mental health and wellness support and Phoenix-lead activities.
1 Million Strong is an initiative created as a collaboration among Stand Together Foundation, which is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in America by driving change from within communities, Stand Together Music, an organization that believes that the music industry is uniquely positioned to amplify and accelerate addiction recovery, and The Phoenix, which was founded on the mission to build a national sober active community that fuels resilience and harnesses the transformational power of connection so that together we rise, recover, and live. The goal of 1 Million Strong is to support one million people in recovery through the strength of community – creating inclusive and engaging sober experiences and encouraging conversations about sobriety.

About The Phoenix
The Phoenix is harnessing the power of connection to build a movement that changes how we look at substance use disorder and recovery in this country and beyond. Founded in 2006, The Phoenix is a transformational non-profit that fosters a free sober active community for individuals recovering from substance use, their supporters, and those who choose to live a sober life. Since launching programs in Colorado, approximately 192,000 people have joined The Phoenix community globally. By leveraging the intrinsic power of physical activity and social connection, participants build confidence and find the support they need to live productive and fulfilling lives in recovery. The Phoenix events are free to anyone with at least 48 hours of continuous sobriety from alcohol and nonprescription drugs, including allies and supporters of those in recovery. Instructors are either in recovery themselves or supporters with a strong tie to the mission and desire to make a difference. The Phoenix helps individuals rise from the ashes of addiction and pursue lives full of hope.
